Happy Thanksgiving! We are incredibly grateful for the support of our friends, family, and all of you who are helping us on our Olympic sailing journey. Your generosity makes our dream of becoming Olympic champions possible!

Cadance Oswald and Micky Munns have partnered for an Olympic campaign in the 470 class. After just a month of training together, we won the 470 Nationals with all first-place finishes. We are now going for gold on our journey to represent the USA at the highest level.
Here’s what we have been up to!
Oyster Bay Fall Training – Where We Started
We kicked off our training in late August at our team base in Oyster Bay, NY. We saw a mix of conditions and got plenty of hours on the water and in the gym. We worked on maneuvers and straight-line speed with our Oyster Bay 470 Team coach, Yevgeniy Burmatnov. Cadance got up to speed in the 470 very quickly. After a successful September camp, we headed off to our first competition as a team: the 470 Nationals in Carlyle, IL.

Highlight: 470 National Championship!
After a 15-hour road trip to Carlyle, IL, we faced an unexpected challenge when a piece of our standing rigging broke. Thankfully, with some quick fixes and plenty of s’mores, we were ready to race. Competing with 470 sailors from every generation was an amazing experience.
Carlyle Sailing Association is a hidden gem. It’s a beautiful facility in Eldon Hazlet state park. We met so many wonderful people and were lucky to speak to the junior program while we were there.
After three days of racing, we won the 470 National Championship, finishing first in every race. It’s a huge milestone for us. Thank you to all the sailors and event organizers who made this possible.

Sailing in West Palm Beach – Pushing Our Limits
After the Nationals, we moved our training south. We are very thankful that Cadance’s home club, the Palm Beach Sailing Club, has graciously hosted our training. In West Palm Beach, where we faced the toughest conditions yet—strong winds and big waves. We focused on improving our boat handling, refining our speed, and pushing our limits. A training week with 5 sailing days, 3-4 hours per day, alongside 5 gym sessions left us exhausted but more confident in our abilities.

We’ve been racing an older 2007 boat, which has served us well, but we are losing on-water time to boat repairs. While it has been dry stored for most of its life and very well maintained, it is getting old, so we are working to secure a build slot for a brand-new boat! A new boat is very expensive and needs to be shipped via container from Germany. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to our sailing campaign, it is greatly appreciated and goes a long way.

Looking Ahead – Miami Winter Training
We are preparing for a busy winter of training in Miami. In December and January, we’ll be training 6 days per week. This will also be our first time sparring against other boats, which gives us a chance to put our maneuvers to the test in real competition. We’re especially excited about the 470 Midwinter Championship in January, where we will face off against some of the top Olympic hopefuls. This is our first real opportunity to compete against other young Olympic campaigners. We can’t wait!
