Team MO470 Secures a New Boat – and Needs Your Help

Team Munns Oswald has been busy since Thanksgiving, and we have incredible news to share.

First, we’ve secured a build slot for a brand-new boat with Bootswerft Ziegelmayer, the world’s premier 470 manufacturer. But we need your help to bring it home!

We also had a productive December and January camp and added another regatta win to our team resume. Keep reading for all the exciting details.

Build Slot Secured: A Game-Changer for Our Campaign

We are immensely honored to earn a build slot with Bootswerft Ziegelmayer. They do not carry any inventory of boats, and make every boat to order based on the exact specifications of the pair purchasing it. Usually teams wait years for their order to be filled. Ours will be done on March 15th!

This new boat is essential for us to compete at the Olympic level. Our current boat, a 2007 model, is sinking—literally. This is our chance to level the playing field and race with the best equipment in the world.

However, the cost of the boat and shipping from Hamburg, Germany to the USA is $25,000. This is a make-or-break moment for our campaign.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our registered 501(c)(3), Windmark Sailing Foundation. Every contribution brings us closer to our dream of winning a gold medal for our country!

Winter Training Highlights

After a successful heavy wind camp at Palm Beach Sailing club, we set up at the US Sailing Center Miami for December and January. Training with our coach, 2-time Olympian Yevgeniy Burmatnov, and our teammates from the Oyster Bay 470 Team has paid off:

  • Regatta Win: Despite Micky battling the flu in the days leading up to the event, we had an amazing performance. Of the nine races sailed, we won six and placed second in the other three—securing the championship!

  • On-Water Progress: we made measurable improvements in speed, racing tactics, and boat handling.

Reflections from the Team

Cadance’s Thoughts

“It’s been fun having training partners and a coach… we were able to compare speeds and do different drills. We just won midwinters, a three day regatta that was super cold but super fun. I’ve had an awesome time sailing with other teams and training hard!”

Micky’s Thoughts

“Teaming up only five months ago, we’ve already won both regattas we’ve entered. I am especially proud of this one because I was battling the flu all the way until the regatta started! There’s lots of work left, but our progress has been very encouraging!”

Moments from Our Winter

Snapped our spinnaker pole in training. Good thing we have spares!

Having fun with coach Burmatnov at awards.

Hiking hard in strong wind.

What’s Next?

  • Training: We’re on the water six days a week, working with our coach through February. We are also spending plenty of time in the gym.

  • Upcoming Plans: Two months of training in West Palm Beach before returning to Oyster Bay in May.
